Lloyd Loom is a classic, patented woven furniture material invented by Marshall Burns Lloyd in 1917 and famously produced today by Lloyd Flanders. Unlike traditional natural rattan or willow that is wrapped around frames, Lloyd Loom is crafted using a unique mechanical process.
Key Characteristics & Construction
• Cellulose Cord & Wire Core: It is made from twisted cellulose (paper-based) fiber cords reinforced with internal aluminum-encased stakes for added stability and durability.
• Continuous Weave: A loom draws fibers simultaneously from over 500 spools to create a smooth, tight, uniform sheet of woven fabric rather than individual hand-woven strands.
• Durium Paint Finish: Finished pieces are sealed and coated with Durium (a high-solid polyester resin paint) that expands and contracts with weather changes to prevent cracking, peeling, or burring.
• Tailored Aesthetics: The tight 5x5 or specialized weaves give the furniture a refined, structured, and luxurious look that works well in both indoor and outdoor settings like sunrooms, porches, and patios.
